Deputy Defence Minister Udomdej Sitabutr, as head of the government's special delegation to the far South, expressed regret over the bombing in Pattani province on Monday night in which a woman was killed and 18 other people wounded. Gen Udomdej said a few days ago he talked with army chief Gen Chalermchai Sitthisart and Gen Prakarn Chonlayut, the 4th Army commander, about protecting people's the lives and property. Since early this month members of the government's special delegation had travelled to the region to meet government officials, get their opinions and give instructions for the implementation of the policy. Gen Udomdej said he was still confident that once improvements had been made in intelligence collection and troop deployments the situation would improve. He said the special delegation would meet again with all the government working groups before the month ends to hear their plans.
